What is Transition Towns?
Hey There!
Super excited to know that you're interested in learning about what Transition Towns is all about.
Growing since 2005, Transition Towns is a grassroots movement dedicated to empowering communities, and growing resiliency. The key drivers that saw this movement established are the intentions to Reduce the effects of Peak Oil, Climate Destruction and Economic Instability through Sustainability and Collaboration.
Transition Towns initiatives are part of a vibrant, international movement that brings people together to explore how we – as communities - can respond to the environmental, economic and social challenges arising from climate change, resource depletion and an economy based on growth.
Thinking global, and acting local is our modus operandi. By coming together at a community level we are able to crowd source creative solutions, and cultivate a caring culture; that drives a new kind of future.
We don’t look for anyone to blame or anyone to save us, but believe our communities have within themselves the innovation and ingenuity to create positive solutions to the converging crises of our time. We believe in igniting and supporting local responses at any level and from anyone – and aim to weave them together into a coordinated action plan for change towards a lower energy lifestyle.
By building local resilience, we will be able to collectively respond to whatever the future may bring in a calm, positive and creative way. And by remembering how to live within our local means, we can rediscover the spirit of community and a feeling of power, belonging and sharing in a world that is vibrant, just and truly sustainable.
In practice, we are reclaiming the economy, sparking entrepreneurship, and reimagining work.
We really hope you feel inspired to take part, we’d be honoured if you did. If you're keen to learn more feel free to come along to one of our Tuesday evening informational events, our group meetings or take part in one of our initiatives!
